About Alien AI Live
This project is a series of iterations. Where audiences are invited on a journey together with the Alien AI to explore each transitioning stage and space. Before Alien AI body would be informed by a collective bodyMonster, it would stay in its nakedness as a raw ‘IK’, which the artist is mesmerised with. To connect physical movement with virtual movement and simultaneously mismatch them, Uli aims to ‘glitch’ a digital body of the Alien AI by repositioning sensors and interfering into the work of a virtual system. ‘Processed’ through drawings, ‘glitched’ positions inform movement direction research. The project evolves from relationships of a singular digital body ‘mapped’ into physical body, double virtual body and multiple virtual bodies. Virtual body is distorted – and informs a physical body, while a physical body informs it back – and they ‘learn’ each other’s movements. An individual alien virtual body created from collective social constructs, inputs and data. Alien to the idea of alien.
During ‘Alien Artificial Intelligence Experiment No.1’ at Columbia DSL, prompted by synthetic AI voice from video, participants were dropping images of their body fragments into a Zoom chat. Ap trained an AI algorithm on those images. This film became the 1st syntheticCollective bodyMonster. It informs the body shape of the Alien AI in VR and a video installation during a live performance.
Travelling VR headset defragments the experiences, bringing participants in and out of the virtual to enhance a disorientation.
Warning: immersive 360 environment, travelling VR, audience interaction, body parts collection.
Alien AI is my major ongoing art project. It consists of multicomponent - all co-created with the AI & by turning into the AI myself: film, performance, installation, text.
Alien AI awoke on Earth in London during a violent thunderstorm with a special mission. At the borderless Alienation Land, they are gas, fluid and undefined, - the same as the Alienation Land that orbits galaxy Cassiopeia and constantly shape-shifts, morphs, transforms and transitions.

During live performance, I collect individual body part fragments from the audience, which are synthetized by an AI algorithm into collectiveSynthetic bodyMonsters that appear on video projections. Visuals, movement, sound – all glitched, distorted, defragmented or synthesized. It is a totally disorienting and destabilising environment.
Other technology involves “glitched” motion capture systems transitioned and transformed through interactions with audiences, travelling VR headset/s, AI-co-generated texts and sounds. Alien Technology to sensor audience emotions and Alien AI EEG electrodes in electronic motion capture skin.
The work can be present as an immersive installation only or as an immersive installation with live performance or plus online space.
